i'm listening to my tyrannosaurus rex record, the unicorn album, to inaugurate my new blog. hopefully it will give me some inspiration. this is going to be another food blog, so i might as well have some type of manifesto...
1. if a food product is labeled "edible for human consumption," it should not simultaneously brag about using "real ingredients." "real ingredients" should be inherent in the packaging.
2. don't be a food snob. everybody's palates are at different levels, and if your niece wants to put heinz57 all over her steak, let her do it. the only reason you should ever pick up a sauté pan or a whisk is to make somebody happy (even if it's just you). and if thousand island dressing makes them happy, then give them the best thousand island dressing your fridge has to offer!
3. try to eat atleast 1 local meal a week. don't worry so much about it being organic when you do this. if the farmer can look you in the eyes when you buy his product, you'll be ok.
4. taste the food you put in your mouth. sometimes we get so accustomed to the taste of processed foods that we forget to see if they even taste good to us anymore. to think, we are a generation that is nostalgic about heavily processed foods such as kraft mac n'cheese, ramen noodles and mcdonald's hamburgers. whatever happened to mom's meatloaf?
i guess that's all i ask of you. i'm sure i'll think of more later, but i feel those are the core beliefs that i hold. until next time, be good to one another...
